Senate Eases Rules on Buprenorphine
The U.S. Senate voted last week to allow group medical practices
to prescribe buprenorphine to more than 30 patients, the Legal Action
Center reported June 7.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Orrin Hatch (R-UT) sponsored S.
1887, which eliminates the 30-patient restriction from the Controlled
Substances Act (PL 101-647). The legislation passed the Senate by
unanimous consent, without objection.
The U.S. House of Representatives version of the amendment, H.R.
3634, the Drug Addiction Treatment Expansion Act of 2003, is under
review in the House Judiciary and House Energy and Commerce Committees. |
