National HIV Testing Day: June 27th
National HIV Testing Day, an annual campaign produced by the National
Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US) to encourage at-risk
individuals to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing, is
June 27th.
As it approaches, it's important to remember the connections between
HIV and substance use disorders. As many as 280,000 Americans are
living with HIV but don't know it. The Centers for Disease Control
estimates that 30-40 percent of all new HIV infections are a result
of injection drug use.
More information on the connection between these two issues is
available at Join Together's "HIV & Substance Abuse"
hot issues page. Here you'll find additional web resources, news
articles, and resources for action.
