Lawmaker Wants to Ban Liquor Sales Near Treatment Facilities
Albuquerque, N.M., City Councilor Martin Heinrich has introduced
an amendment to the city's code of ordinances that would ban liquor
sales establishments within 500 feet of addiction treatment facilities,
the Albuquerque Business Journal reported June 7.
"It is entirely unproductive to have bars and sobering services
centers next door to one another," Heinrich said. "That's
not good planning and it's not good policy."
It is not known how many liquor establishments would be affected
by Heinrich's measure.
