Grants Fund After-School Programs in Carolinas
A new three-year initiative from the child-care program at the Duke
Endowment will award funding for after-school programs in North
Carolina and South Carolina, in an effort to improve the quality
of existing programs for children who are at risk for abuse and
neglect.
Up to 30 after-school programs in North and South Carolina will
be selected to participate in the initiative. The grant program
will target efforts that serve a high percentage of children ages
6-12 whose families are eligible for state subsidies; primarily
serve children whose families exhibit identified characteristics
indicating risk for abuse or neglect; and are located in identified
high-need communities.
Up to $10,000 will be awarded to each program for training, consultation
and funding to improve the quality of their services and achieve
higher levels of licensure or accreditation.
The grant program is open to formal after-school programs that
target at-risk children, as well as other organizations that provide
after-school programs, such as YMCAs, YWCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs,
and churches of any denomination that serve children at risk for
abuse or neglect.
The application deadline is June 15. Program information, guidelines,
and an application form are available on the Duke Endowment website
